28th November 2011:  BCVA Congress winner
Nimrod's prize draw at the BCVA Congress this year was drawn by out-going president of the BCVA, Mr John Fishwick.  The prize was a Selekt Cattle Pump and Drenching Set, and the winner was Miss Katy Chapman, of Struthers and Scott, in Doune.

1st March 2011: Mike Steinbock joins Nimrod.
Nimrod has appointed Mike Steinbock as its sales agent in the south-east of England.  Mr Steinbock graduated from the University of Nottingham in Animal Nutrition, Physiology and Biochemistry.  Since then, he has worked in farming and in animal nutrition for some of the leading companies in these fields.  He will be responsible for keeping veterinary practices informed on Nimrod's products, and ensuring that they and their clients benefit from them as fully as possible.  He is highly respected in the feed industry, and will also be working for the company on special projects relating to in-feed medication.

9th February 2011: the Progress Ewe Drencher for oral fluid therapy for ewes.
Nimrod has introduced a drenching device for ewes, the Progress Ewe Drencher.  It is based on the same principle as the Selekt Drenching Set for cows.  A flexible hose, with a bulbous end to encourage ewes to swallow it, passes through a hard tubular gag which protects it from being bitten.  When the hose has reached the rumen, fluids can be delivered from a jerry-can fitted with a tap and air inlet.  Up to 5 litres can be given and, in addition to electrolytes, a clinical-nutrition formula may be used as part of the treatment for the underlying condition.

The Progress Ewe Drencher will be used principally for dehydrated ewes with twin-lamb disease, hypocalcaemia and acute mastitis.  Owing to the difficulty and expense of the rehydration options available, these ewes have usually had to go without fluid therapy in the past.  Now, the Progress Ewe Drencher provides an easy and inexpensive opportunity to give it.

The Progress Ewe Drencher will be promoted to farmers, but will be supplied only to vets, and farmers who want one will be directed to their vet.

7th October 2010: Nimrod brings the Masterject automatic pole syringe to the vet.
Animals not accustomed to regular handling can be difficult and dangerous to inject.  Pole syringes enable injections to be given from a distance, but can be difficult to use.  The Masterject automatic pole syringe makes it both safe and easy to inject fractious animals.  Its patented design ensures that when the end of the pole touches the animal, the syringe is discharged instantly.  Nimrod has now been appointed the official distributor of the Masterject pole syringe to the veterinary profession.

1st September 2010: Appointment of Tina Morris in Nimrod's
Northern Region

Nimrod has appointed Tina Morris as its new Regional Sales Manager covering northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  Mrs Morris was formerly working as a ruminant specialist in the animal-feed industry.  She has just been awarded a post-graduate diploma in Organic Farming from the Scottish Agricultural College in Aberdeen.  As part of her studies, she investigated the prevalence of lameness in organic and conventional dairy herds in the north of England and Scotland.  Speaking of her new appointment, she said "Working with Nimrod's veterinary customers will be a great opportunity for me to pursue my interest in the care and management of dairy cows, and to contribute to herd health and productivity by working with vets to ensure the most advantageous use of Nimrod's products."

5th July 2010: BCVA -  stomach tubing is a "day-one" skill
The British Cattle Veterinary Association has recognized the importance of stomach tubing of cows by including it in its list of "day-one" skills for new graduates entering cattle practice.  The list, just published, is intended as guidance for students who wish to develop a career in cattle practice.  The technique of stomach tubing was introduced in the UK in 2003 by Nimrod's founder, veterinary surgeon David Renney.

It was the design and manufacture of the Selekt brand of drenching equipment, including a flexible hose which can be securely locked in a gag in the cow's mouth, which first made stomach tubing a safe and easy procedure.  It is now used routinely in cattle practice, and progressive practices are training their clients to use it too.  The Selekt equipment is marketed by Nimrod.

The BCVA's list of "day-one" skills can be found at www.bcva.eu/bcva/content/day-1-skills http://www.bcva.eu/bcva/content/day-1-skills

2th July 2010: Nimrod launches Karidox 100 mg/ml Oral Solution
Nimrod has launched Karidox, an oral solution containing 100 mg doxycycline per ml.  It is the first liquid doxycycline product to become available in the UK, and offers users of doxycycline much greater convenience in dispensing.  Nimrod is marketing Karidox in partnership with Vetsonic LLP.

20th January 2010: Nimrod participates in the first XL Vets Farm Skills training course.
David Renney, veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, joined Ben George, of the St Boniface Vets in Devon, as a trainer on the first XL Vets Farm Skills training course today.  The subject of the course was "Care of the fresh cow and calf", and it included a demonstration of the proper use of the Selekt Cattle Pump and Drenching Set.  Several of the participants decided it would be useful to have their own Selekt equipment for routine use on the farm.

1st December 2009: BCVA Congress winner
The winner of the Selekt Rumen-Fluid Collector at this year's BCVA Congress was Mr C. E. Shepherd, MRCVS.

16th November 2009: Nimrod at the BCVA Congress, Southport
Nimrod is a sponsor of this year's British Cattle Veterinary Association Congress, and will have a stand in the commercial exhibition.  Commenting on the Company's participation, David Renney, veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, said "We are delighted to have this opportunity to support the BCVA Congress.  As well as being a sponsor, we are providing a speaker, Dr Nicolai Agger, inventor of the Selekt drenching system and the Selekt Rumen-Fluid Collector, and the person who formulated the Selekt clinical-nutrition products.  He will be talking about his experience of fluid therapy in various other countries."  The congress takes place in Southport, from 26th to 28th November.  Dr Agger will be speaking in the Friesian Hall at 9 a.m. on Friday 27th November.

14th September 2009: the Selekt Horse Pump - suitable for horses and cattle
Adding to its Selekt range of equipment and formulae for oral fluid therapy for large animals, Nimrod has announced the introduction of a Selekt Horse Pump.  It consists of a Selekt Cattle Pump with a snap-on adaptor and a top-quality naso-gastric tube.  This allows easy administration of liquid paraffin and electrolytes to horses, saving the time taken to use a funnel, with no risk of spillage.  It also means that vets working with both cattle and horses can now use their Selekt equipment for both species.

Like the Selekt Cattle Pump on which it is based, the Selekt Horse Pump can be used both for delivery of fluids and for aspiration of them.  It is of the highest quality, with a stainless-steel body, and all its parts can easily be replaced.

2nd March 2009: launch of Nimrod Red Lamb
This year's strong lamb price is an opportunity that farmers should exploit to the full.  So, to increase the survival rate of newborn lambs, particularly those born in difficult or assisted lambings, Nimrod has introduced Nimrod Red Lamb.  It is a tonic nutritional paste that provides energy in the form most useful to newborn animals: medium-chain triglycerides.  This high-density energy source can be absorbed and utilized more rapidly than any other such energy source.  It has long been used for newborn babies that need such nutritional support, and Nimrod has now made it available, with other key nutrients for newborn lambs, in Nimrod Red Lamb.  The product comes in a handy pump-action dispenser and is available only through veterinary surgeons.

9th February 2009: Selekt Off Feed for inappetant cows
A poor appetite, causing reduction in feed intake, is always accompanied by dehydration in dairy cows.  Nowadays, cows off their feed are normally given fluids, using the Selekt drenching system invented by Dr Agger.  To provide nutritional support for these cows and to stimulate rumen activity and appetite, Nimrod has added Selekt Off Feed to the Selekt range of clinical-nutrition products.  It is the first product for cows off their feed that has been formulated not only to stimulate favourable rumen activity, but also to supply the immediate nutritional requirements of such cows.

5th January 2009: appointment of Chris Hoey in South-West England
Nimrod has announced the appointment of a new sales agent, Chris Hoey, in the South-West of England.  Mr Hoey will support the sales of Nimrod's products to veterinary surgeons, providing technical information and after-sales service.  Mr Hoey graduated in Agriculture from London University, and has spent over 30 years in the agricultural supply industry, developing a particular interest and expertise in nutrition.  He started working in the veterinary field five years ago, and this appointment brings him back into the company of his former colleagues Blyth Thomson, and veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, David Renney.  They were both at Forum Products when he held Forum's agency in the South West.  Mr Hoey said, "Nimrod's focus on products for cattle, and its aim of giving vets the opportunity to be more broadly involved in herd health, appeal to me.  I am particularly pleased to be continuing my work on the Selekt products invented by Dr Agger.  Most practices now use the system, but there are still many opportunities to extend the use of fluid therapy and clinical nutrition in dairy cows."

1st January 2009: Nimrod takes over the marketing of the Selekt (formerly Agger's) range for fluid therapy of cows
Nimrod has been appointed the new distributor of the Selekt range of products for oral fluid therapy for cows.  These products were designed and formulated by Danish veterinary surgeon, Dr Nicolai Agger, and manufactured by his company.  In the UK and Ireland, they were introduced to the veterinary profession by David Renney, veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, and his colleague Blyth Thomson, when they worked together at Forum, the former distributor, under the name "Agger's".  This is a trade mark of Forum Products Ltd, so the products will now be sold by Nimrod in the UK under their international brand name, Selekt.  The confidential specifications of their ingredients, and their designs and formulations, remain the same, and they continue to be manufactured in the same way, in the same place.  The only change is the name.

13th November 2008: launch of Propa-Prep Tubing Wipes
Exhibiting today at the annual congress of the British Cattle Veterinary Association, Nimrod has introduced Propa-Prep Tubing Wipes, designed to make teat disinfection easy. They are particularly valuable for use before infusion of intramammary products, when thorough disinfection is vitally important. They are impregnated with a solution of chlorhexidine in surgical spirit made by a patented process which eliminates the need for addition of water to the solution. Containing no added water, this solution therefore has superior disinfecting properties. Matt Dobbs, a veterinary surgeon specializing in mastitis and cattle production at the Westpoint Veterinary Group, said "We have already started dispensing Propa-Prep Tubing Wipes to our clients, and they are delighted with them. They are easy to use, and with their excellent disinfecting properties, they make the use of all intramammary products much safer."

12th May 2008: launch of Nimrod Red Calf
Nimrod has launched Nimrod Red Calf, an invigorating energy-rich paste for weak newborn calves, particularly those delivered in a difficult calving or by Caesarian section. Commenting on the launch, David Renney, veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, said, "Calves are valuable now, but the survival rate for calves born in difficult calvings is less than 50%. It is essential that the newborn calf should have the will and energy to stand up, move about and suck its dam. Nimrod Red Calf gives it that will and energy."

6th May 2008: introduction of Precision supplements
Nimrod has introduced a new range of speciality feed supplements, to be sold under the veterinary brand name, Precision. The products are intended to be used in situations where nutrition has a role to play alongside management and clinical interventions, for example, when bulk-milk somatic cell counts are high or when hoof-horn quality is a factor in lameness.

Speaking about the launch of the Precision range, David Renney, veterinary surgeon and founder of Nimrod, said he felt better co-ordination of nutrition with other aspects of herd-health management presented an important opportunity for vets to contribute to the health of their clients' herds. The Precision range is supported by ruminant nutritionist, Cara Freeston-Smith, whose expertise has been deployed to create the first two Precision products, and who is now developing additions to the range.

1st May 2008: appointment of Blyth Thomson
Nimrod has appointed Blyth Thomson as Regional Sales Manager for the northern half of the United Kingdom.  Mr Thomson has a strong background in farming, and has established himself over the last eight years as one of the most well-known and trusted personalities working with farm-animal vets. Speaking of his appointment, he said, "I am delighted to be joining such an innovative company, in a role that will give me the opportunity to support my veterinary customers by extending their offering to their clients in the field of herd health and welfare."  Mr Thomson was formerly at Forum Products Ltd, where he was a pioneer in establishing the use of oral fluids for dairy cows, now standard practice in cattle medicine.
